Cleanse Your Soul By Watching A Live Performance By CROSSES

Watch a video or two of Crosses performing in California. If you like, head on over to my playlist on YouTube…I have their entire set on there. I did not record it however. Someone with the user name went to TWO shows this past week and recorded both sets. Be sure to subscribe!

WRECK-OMMENDATION! CROSSES featuring Chino Moreno on vocals.

I’m sure you have heard of this band already. Chino Moreno on vocals and Shaun Lopez on just about everything else. This collaboration is one of the best things to happen in recent years. If you’re a fan of bands like The Cure, Deftones (derp), NIN, Depeche Mode and other sexy shit to fuck to, then you’ll enjoy the music from Crosses. Check out a few songs below from the their second EP.

TRENT REZNOR Talks About Leaving The Record Industry & What Needs To Change

I jacked this from The PRP because it is a good read! Check it out!

Trent Reznor of Nine Inch Nails, How To Destroy Angels, etc. fame recently took part in a very insightful (and admittedly lengthy) interview with Along with his recent film score work, Reznor shared his thoughts on upcoming projects, the state of the record industry and more.

When asked why he originally parted ways with Interscope Records and abandoned the traditional record company models, he offered:

“Well [pauses], that time would’ve been about two thousand…eight-ish, somewhere in that neighborhood, and, the true reality of that situation was: the record deal that we had signed years and years before had escalating advances based on the current state of the industry when that was negotiated. Meanwhile, the industry has collapsed, and those advances didn’t make any sense for the record label at that point.

They were astronomical compared to what an expected return would be. We were kind of presented with the situation of, “Hey, if you wanna stay here, let’s renegotiate something that’s more realistic for us in terms of an advance, or, do it on your own.”

Now, at that time in my life, it felt very much like, “OK. The record business is broken. The model is broken.” I’d go through periods of having to look in the mirror and say, “Let’s see. I just made an album I spent a year working on. I turned it over to the record label to get manufactured. It leaked, and I’m online, just boiling furious, at fans who’re talking about how much they love this new album, that they just stole.”

Earache Records

I’m going to begin this review with the notes that were found within the promo. Canada’s WOODS OF YPRES push their haunted brand of bleak metal into new dimensions of tortured gloom. ‘Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light‘ defines the sound the band have been striving for, marrying downbeat doom rock with catchy melody and hooky choruses into a sound that promises hope on one hand and delivers desolation on the other. Band mastermind David Gold delivers his dry Nick Cave-esque lyrical approach with a rumbling, rich baritone offset with a heartfelt ‘regular’ vocal, laying his soul bare on tracks such as ‘Career Suicide (Is Not A Real Suicide)‘ or the frail ‘Finality‘. With a rich production courtesy of John Fryer (Depeche Mode, NIN, White Zombie, HIM), the lush orchestration sets the emotions on edge in songs such as ‘Traveling Alone‘ or ‘Death Is Not An Exit‘. Woods of Ypres manage to make music that sounds catchy and upbeat, while crushing hearts at the same time, producing a dangerously addictive combination of self depreciation and eternal hope making ‘Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light‘ a dark curse for those who dare to dream.

Ready for Trent Reznor news? The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo Soundtrack, How To Destroy Angels and Nine Inch Nails

Well Mr. Reznor sure keeps busy…with the release of “The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo” soundtrack coming out soon, we’re all expecting another award winning soundtrack. Right? Is that not enough Reznor for ya? Well his side project with his wife, How To Destroy Angels, will be playing some live gigs next year. I’m sure they will have more in store for us as HTDA has only released a 5 song EP. Still not enough? Reznor also stated that he will begin songwriting for new Nine Inch Nails material.

As a fan of his work, I can say this is all great news and I cannot wait to hear every single second of music he puts out. If you have not heard of How To Destroy Angels, here are a couple of my favorites off of the latest EP.

NECRO DEATHMORT – Electronica of Doom

So I am on Twitter earlier and I see this: “Go holla at AJ’s band @NecroDeathmort Doom Electronic shiz – Richie”. Richie is from Sol Invicto, a quality drum and bass electronic type of band. They put out an EP earlier his year and are working on something new as we speak. I click on the link which took me to Necro Deathmort’s Facebook and I gave it a listen. Man this shit is amazing. It’s like Black Sabbath, Nadja and NIN all thrown together. Some spooky shit but very soul shaking. I highly recommend this band.
