CRATOR: A Brand New Death Metal Band featuring members of ORIGIN, KRALLICE, MUCOPUS, and TENTACLES

Crator come out of nowhere and put this work out. Head on over to their Facebook page, give them a “like” then listen in on the 3 song demo they have on their music tab. The tunes are pretty rad. This is a random special treat, you usually don’t get some good new music that is this good early in the morning like this. Not much info has been released. I don’t see anything specific about band members, when an official release will be put out or if they are even a touring act. I just know that this death metal is gooooood.

Check em out, go forth and headbang.

Album Review! CANNIBAL CORPSE – Torture

The band that helped mold brutal death metal, Cannibal Corpse, has just put out their 12th studio album entitled “Torture“. Corpsegrinder and the gang are back to their usual thing, making heavy death metal while keeping that Cannibal groove about it. Ultra heavy and quite homicidal, Torture keeps this tradition going. If you liked The Wretched Spawn & Kill then you’ll love Torture, I feel like those two albums are the most similar to this newest installment. There are fast thrash metal parts, slow slamming groove sections and plenty of mosh starting, headbanging moments as well. Some of the riff work on the album is refreshing and fun, the bass guitar is (finally) more audible and the drums are back with that Cannibal thirst for blood.

I could just say “It’s a Cannibal Corpse album, either you already like them or you don’t. Check it out” and let that do the talking. Not much has changed since The Wretched Spawn. The sound is the same, the brutality is there, the tones/drums/vocals sound pretty much the same. Nothing has really changed. Honestly, that is a good thing because I have fully enjoyed what Camp Corpse has been doing for the last 2 decades. Torture is just another chapter of damn good songs in the book of death metal. It’s a neck breaker of an album and hearing the guys perform them live will be a great experience. Another thing that is consistent with Cannibal Corpse records: Listen to it loud and you’ll get a ring in your ears. This album is violently loud just like Kill and Evisceration Plague was so warn your girlfriend ahead of time. She’ll appreciate it.

Meet The Wretched: WRETCHED & THE WRETCHED END Release New Music Videos

First we have Wretched with their video for “Dilated Disappointment” from their new album Son of Perdition which will be released on March 26th through Victory Records. It’s a damn fine song, damn fine. If you like what you hear then be sure to check them out on the Metal Alliance Tour that may or may not be hitting your town. I’ll be seeing them! In your face!

Next we have The Wretched End with their smash hit “Death By Nature“. I’ve never heard of these guys before and I mistakenly thought it was the new Wretched song. However, I wasn’t disappointed at all. The Wretched End provide some damn good metal. If you don’t believe me then check it out for yourself!!

Exclusive Interview: Ben Harclerode from Whitechapel

I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with Ben Harclerode, Whitechapel’s drummer extraordinaire. Recently joining the band and running with them live and recording last year’s EP with them, he talks about just finishing up the new album and tour life. I’d like to thank Metal Blade and Daniel Robben for setting up this interview and giving me the opportunity. This is Headbang or GTFO’s first interview and it was a privilege and an honor to speak to Ben and step foot inside their tour bus. Bold words are my own, normal font is Ben Harclerode’s words. Enjoy.

Thank you for doing the interview with me.

Yeah of course man.

This is Ben with Whitechapel, the drummer.

(laughs)

How’s the tour so far? I know it just started n all.

It’s been great. It’s been off to a really great start, I guess. Memphis is kind of a weird place usually as far as heavier music goes but Knoxville and that whole show was awesome. It’s been really good man, the bands have been really cool.

Right on. What’s your favorite band to watch so far?

After the Burial, those guys fucking shred. Sorry, excuse me. Ahh, those guys are good.

You can say “fuck” as much as you want, I don’t care. Do whatever you want.

Ok, yeah those guys are awesome. They sound great every night, they’re all really tight players and I dunno it’s kinda tech-ier stuff and it’s up my alley.

Yeah, that’s good shit. Have you heard Spawn of Possession’s new album? Incurso? Just came out this week. (March 13th)

No I haven’t.

Oh, it’s fucking brilliant. You’d like it if you like technical death metal.

I like those guys, for sure.

What’s your setlist like on this tour? Is it mainly older shit? Or is it just newer songs? Are you playing anything brand new?

No, I mean the tour is called “The Recorruptour”, we released the Recorrupted EP in November. So we’re naturally playing “Section 8″, the new song off of the EP. Other than that nothing new, we just finished up recording literally the day before we went on tour.

Any details on the release of that album or at least when a single will be released?

Umm, yeah I’m not 100% as far as the single, I mean we’re shooting for a pre-Mayhem release because we’re doing the Mayhem Tour this summer. So I don’t know if I’m technically supposed to say any specific dates but I mean like I said we’re shooting for a pre-Mayhem release.

Will there be any special guests on this album? Guitarists? Vocalists? I know you had two guest vocalists on the last album.

No, as far as vocals go nothing really. As far as leads we have one guy from Knoxville that came in and dropped a couple nasty leads over a couple of the songs. Other than that it’s pretty straight forward.

What do you usually do during the day? What’s tour life like?

I practice a lot, play a lot of video games. I don’t know it’s nice having the bus be an option.

Yeah, it’s fucking nice. (I look around, admiring)

I definitely have done some shitty van tours and it’s nice to be able to hang out or have a place to go take a nap. I just do stupid shit over the course of the day to keep myself occupied. Play drums when I have to, warm up, some people would say I do that more than I need to.

What games do you guys usually play? I see Phil (Bozeman) on Twitter all the time talking about Modern Warfare 2 and 3, is that what you guys usually play?

Yeah, that’s kind of our jam. Play a lot of Modern Warfare 3.

Any good at it?

I’m not very good at it, Phil smokes everybody. He’s like 9th level prestige or something right now. He’s into it.

Well that’s all the questions I have. I just want to congratulate you guys on another headlining tour and finishing up on the album and getting on Mayhem Fest. I can’t wait to hear your new album! Thanks for talking with me. See you tonight and put on a great show!

Yup, thanks buddy.

PLAGUE WIDOW – “Assimilated Subconscious” – live at KDVS | Raise The Dead

Plague Widow bringing straight up death metal to some poor radio station and their listener base. I hope they were ready for them because Plague Widow punishes, in a good way. Like bear hugging a toddler. Anyways, here is the band performing their song Assimilated Subconscious for Raise The Dead -KDVS, DAVIS 90.3FM

Check out their new EP here on Bandcamp.

Concert Review! WHITECHAPEL

March 16th, Beaumont Club, Kansas City, MO….the crowd has already gone nuts several times for the opening bands and now they await patiently for the main event, the headliner….Whitechapel. Set up takes awhile and the stage opens up big for the 6 monsters from Knoxville, Tennessee, allowing them to perform and move about without bumping into one another. Lights are set up, tones are checked and the lights go out. The fog machine spews obnoxious amounts of steam into the faces of the crowd and dimly a blue light barely illuminates the stage and the 5 gents up front walk towards the end of the stage and Ben Harclerode sits down at his kit. The beginning of Section 8 begins to play and then slams into it hard just like how the song is done on the EP. The Recorruptour has come and now the main event is owning the crowd, forcing them to headbang, scream and mosh like crazy.

The sound was loud, terrifyingly loud and very very clear. Their stage was mostly blackened with very little lighting at first. Then the spooky lights would come on every once in awhile covering the stage and band with red, blue and green colors. There were also a ton of strobe light action happening on the faster parts of songs as well, sometimes the colored lights joining in on the strobe fest. It was a sight to behold, one second you can barely see the band, next thing you are being bombarded with flashing lights and evil sounding music. It was intense and the experience was a damn good one, the best I’ve ever seen from Whitechapel.

NEW SONGS (Bootleg Edition): MUNICIPAL WASTE – “You’re Cut Off” & THE FACELESS – “New Song”

Municipal Waste’s new track “You’re Cut Off” is very “meh”. It’s only worth a damn if I’m drunk as piss and wanting to smash shit. The Faceless’ new song is interesting and sounds like something Devin Townsend cut from “Deconstruction“. Having this weird carnival part and what not, I’m not entirely sold on it yet….maybe with actual studio quality audio I’ll get into it but this bootleg does not sit well with me.

NEW SONG: CATTLE DECAPITATION – “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat” & Album Art/Title REVEALED!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Surprise to me, Cattle Decapitation’s new song has become available earlier than expected…..it must be my birthday!!! Cattle Decapitation’s new album “Monolith of Inhumanity” will be released on May 8th through Metal Blade Records. Their new single, “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat“, may have a disgusting ring to it but the music itself is far from gross. Travis’ vocals are once again impressive (How does he do this, album after album?!?!?!) and the music is more constructed towards a good death groove compared to their previous works with over the top guitar work. Don’t get me wrong, it’s still incredibly sinister and evil and heavy as all hell, the riffs seem to be more focused on palm muted tremolo riffs on this particular track. Not much of a solo, just some good ol’ guitar screams. The drum work is maniacal and the gravity blasts return to puncture your skull. “A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat” is an instant classic, it’s got me fucking pumped for this new album.

Track Listing:

01. The Carbon Stampede
02. Dead Set On Suicide
03. A Living, Breathing Piece of Defecating Meat
04. Forced Gender Reassignment
05. Gristle Licker
06. Projectile Ovulation
07. Lifestalker
08. Do Not Resuscitate
09. Your Disposal
10. The Monolith
11. Kingdom of Tyrants

NEW SONG: MARASMUS – Casket Made of Ivory

One last thing, Marasmus out of Kansas City, MO just released a new single from their new album, Mountains of Dead, coming out this Spring on Disgorge Media. The song is Casket Made of Ivory isn’t exactly new for the band but they’ve put a lot of work into this and reconstructed it and polished it up and put it out for us to consume. Enjoy some brutal death metal, enjoy MARASMUS.

2012: Vote For Change. SUMMER SLAUGHTER TOUR Is Running A Poll For Their Opening Act!

The Summer Slaughter Tour, one of the heaviest touring metal festivals of the year, is letting you decide who opens up the entire thing! The polls have been open for a couple of days now and it doesn’t state when they will close. Each band is definitely worthy of the spot but only one will win! So who will share the stage with Cannibal Corpse, Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless, Exhumed, Goatwhore and Veil of Maya? The nominees are on the picture below.

Visit The Summer Slaughter Tour Facebook page, click on the “VOTING” on the left hand side of the page and install the app. You will then be allowed to properly vote for which band you seem fit to open. As I post this, Fallujah is currently winning but Vildhjarta is right behind them. Will Vildhjarta catch up? Will Enfold Darkness come back and take it all?

NEW SONG: HOUR OF PENANCE – Decimate The Ancestry Of The Only God

Oh holy shit. Hour of Penance is so bad ass. This new shit from them is crazy. It’s like riding a tornado into a hurricane, these guys play some heavy death metal. Oh and their album is dropping soon. Sedition will be out March 27th through Prosthetic Records.

For now, get ready to get ear raped. Enjoy, Decimate The Ancestry Of The Only God!

Album Review! SPAWN OF POSSESSION – Incurso

When the music starts, it’s a quick tease of heaviness then an epic introduction that reminds me of the Mako Reactor soundtrack from Final Fantasy 7 when you first start the game. When that is done, it’s straight into technical death metal greatness. Spawn of Possession are rather new to me, I’ve never really listened to them before. When they released a single of theirs about a month ago I was swept off of my feet and highly anticipating the release of their album, “Incurso“. Well now it’s here: the first thing you notice is the art. The album art is fucking nuts, I don’t know what that floating thing is but it looks like is has nothing but bad intentions for that dude and the entire world.

Back to the music, you have some of the most exciting and creative song writing since Necrophagist’sEpitaph“. The riffs are very technical and melodic at the same time and somehow amidst all of that chaos they hold down a very tight rhythmic pattern that is unlike anything I’ve previously heard. Bass guitar has unique patterns and leads as well and what I love about the bass guitar is the fact it’s pretty audible. It’s not overwhelming or behind the drums, it’s perfectly blended with the music. The drums…..I bet drummer Henrik Schönström must put WD-40 on his joints after performing each song because his intensity, speed and savagery is just pushing the limits as to what can be done by a human being on that kit. Vocals are mainly low with some mid-range screaming in there. He does this thing that many tech death bands do and that’s grunt 10,000 words a minute. Growling out words as fast as the double bass drum is going. The band as a whole has created one hell of an album and if you enjoy technical death metal, you’re in for a treat.

NEW SONG: UPON A BURNING BODY – Sin City

Upon A Burning Body, not a band I listen to on a regular basis……actually not one I listen to at all. Not that they are bad but I usually default to Whitechapel and Suicide Silence for my deathcore needs. As I listen to this track, I realize that there is nothing particularly great about it. Just another track that says “Fuck” real loud and has gang vocals. Yawn. Well, I’m not impressed. Maybe next time.
