Top 5 Albums Of The Year So Far…

Just for fun, I want to share with you my top five albums of the year so far. These albums are great and I think they’ll be contenders for the end of the year list that is just SO much fun to put together. So far we have the following:

5: Exotic Animal Petting ZooTree of Tongues. This awesome gem was an unexpected gift sent to me for review. I’ve never heard of the band until earlier this year and the album just continues to get played to this day. I rocked this shit while in the garage yesterday! It’s really good.

4: Cannibal CorpseTorture. It just came out but this one is on a continuous loop , I listen to it twice a day at least. The songs on the album are just so fucking entertaining. It takes no time at all to fully enjoy this album for what it is.

3: Plague Widow2012 EP. A new band with a big sound. This is how you do death grind. Songs are short, to the point and incredibly heavy. If you haven’t checked out Plague Widow yet after all of these posts I’ve been making you are a fucking retard.

2: CrossesEP II. Not metal, actually far from it. Chino Moreno/Shaun Lopez/Chuck Doom come together to write some beautiful music. It’s slow & tragic yet romantic. Crosses is one of the best side projects to have come out in recent years.

1: Woods of YpresWoods V: Grey Skies & Electric Light. Words cannot describe my love for this album. The bands final album, Woods V, is a really tough album for me to listen to and sing along to all the way through and not get a tear built up. I miss David Gold and this is his amazing last work of art. This album inspires me, it motivates me, it calms me and it makes me think. Not to mention the tunes are fucking good, this is a different take on doom. It’s not just toned down guitars and growling, it’s singing….really good singing. David’s lowest vocal tone ever, and the fact there are so many instruments contributing to the sound on this album makes Woods V that much more unique. Also, even with all of the heavy death metal put out so far this year, nothing makes me headbang harder then the part on “Alternate Ending” on the 1:48 mark, the doom breakdown is so fucking good. I love this album. RIP David Gold, you’ve inspired more than any man ever has.

Album Review! CANNIBAL CORPSE – Torture

The band that helped mold brutal death metal, Cannibal Corpse, has just put out their 12th studio album entitled “Torture“. Corpsegrinder and the gang are back to their usual thing, making heavy death metal while keeping that Cannibal groove about it. Ultra heavy and quite homicidal, Torture keeps this tradition going. If you liked The Wretched Spawn & Kill then you’ll love Torture, I feel like those two albums are the most similar to this newest installment. There are fast thrash metal parts, slow slamming groove sections and plenty of mosh starting, headbanging moments as well. Some of the riff work on the album is refreshing and fun, the bass guitar is (finally) more audible and the drums are back with that Cannibal thirst for blood.

I could just say “It’s a Cannibal Corpse album, either you already like them or you don’t. Check it out” and let that do the talking. Not much has changed since The Wretched Spawn. The sound is the same, the brutality is there, the tones/drums/vocals sound pretty much the same. Nothing has really changed. Honestly, that is a good thing because I have fully enjoyed what Camp Corpse has been doing for the last 2 decades. Torture is just another chapter of damn good songs in the book of death metal. It’s a neck breaker of an album and hearing the guys perform them live will be a great experience. Another thing that is consistent with Cannibal Corpse records: Listen to it loud and you’ll get a ring in your ears. This album is violently loud just like Kill and Evisceration Plague was so warn your girlfriend ahead of time. She’ll appreciate it.

The Summer Slaughter Tour, one of the heaviest touring metal festivals of the year, is letting you decide who opens up the entire thing! The polls have been open for a couple of days now and it doesn’t state when they will close. Each band is definitely worthy of the spot but only one will win! So who will share the stage with Cannibal Corpse, Between the Buried and Me, The Faceless, Exhumed, Goatwhore and Veil of Maya? The nominees are on the picture below.

Visit The Summer Slaughter Tour Facebook page, click on the “VOTING” on the left hand side of the page and install the app. You will then be allowed to properly vote for which band you seem fit to open. NEW SONG: CANNIBAL CORPSE – Encased In Concrete

Holy shit this new Cannibal Corpse track is amazing! I haven’t felt this dizzy and excited for a new Corpse track since KILL. That opening verse riff is unique and Pat n Rob have out done themselves again writing some killer ass riffs. They are a fierce metal combo when it comes to riffs n leads. The track is both brutally fast and maliciously slow at times. All n all it’s a great track. Oh and you can listen to the new track here via Decibel.

Torture” will be out next week, March 13th on Metal Blade Records.

Concert Review – TROGLODYTE

Feb. 29th, 2012 – The Beaumont Club – Gornography just left the stage and we all go about our business and wait for the next band to come out. Luckily, from one good band to the next, Troglodyte is coming up to kick our asses and drag us back to the swamp! Kansas City death metal titans Troglodyte waste no time and they get set up and go. In traditional Trog fashion, they just start ripping their fretboards up and the double bass and blasts from the kit are welcomed by the crowd. We liked what we heard, we liked what we saw. The lights stayed green, just how they prefer. The music was loud and crisp. The screams/growls & grunts were terrifying. Troglodyte was out to get you.

Troglodyte ripped through their set with intensity. They began, raped, then left us all dead in a ditch. I was outside between bands so I missed the main intro but walked in right when they started their first song “Bring Me the Head Of Bigfoot“. Right then, there was no turning back. Just to simply put it, nothing but barbaric attacks and infectious grooves happening on stage. Guitars and bass sounded good, vocals were clear and monstrous and the drums were severe trauma to the body. The only thing that was a little lack luster on stage was the singer, he seemed either tired or uninterested. He wasn’t going insane like I’ve seen before. Kinda just walking back n forth and going through the motions. Usually this motherfucker is jumping around, headbanging and going absolutely ape shit.

Concert Review – GORNOGRAPHY

Feb 29th, 2012 at The Beaumont Club here in Kansas City, MO. Gornography technically wasn’t the first band to take the stage but they damn sure were the first band to get shit going. Gornography is a technical death metal band who are actually local and personally to me they are easily the top 3 metal acts in the Kansas City, MO area. This was my first time ever seeing the band perform live however, all previous enjoyment of the band has been through audio only.

Gornography kicked off their set with the song “Visions of Gore“, which is one of the first songs I heard from the band. The sound was loud, thick and heavy. From where I was standing, dead center and up front, I could hear the vocals pretty clearly, bass guitar was barely audible and guitars were a little faint. Drums were as clear as day though as Chris Wilson pounded on the kit faster than anyone in the entire Midwest. The lighting wasn’t anything particularly special because it’s an opening technical death grind band, they do not need gimmicks, weird lighting and bullshit like that. Gornography just comes out, fucks your face and leaves. The way I like it.

Album Review! Nephelium – Coils Of Entropy

Nephelium’sCoils of Entropy” is straight up death metal with no gimmicks or any filler bullshit. This is straight up raw and dirty death metal. I say dirty because those guitar tones are muddy and nasty. Rhythm riffs are just thick and get the riot moving and the leads are well executed and fun. Drums n bass are monstrous and vocals are done in the style of old school era death metal. Each track is throat ripping death metal that is heavily influenced by old school death metal. The riffs are the main focus on the guitars, showcasing some technical leads. Solos are often quick and fuckin shred.

Where Coils of Entropy succeeds is how good the songs are. The riffs man, the riffs! Each song is packed with them and the brutality of the album as a whole is on par with Suffocation, Cannibal Corpse and Autopsy. I just want to throw up horns and headbang each time I listen to this album. Nephelium is one of those bands who are severely over looked and under appreciated. The only thing I didn’t care for on the album was the ending vocals on the song “Malediction“. It sounded as if the singer watched some Looney Tunes and then tried to mimic the Tasmanian Devil, it’s just laughable the way the vocals are on that part. Other than that, the album front front to back is rather flawless.

There are some rather long songs on here and you might think to yourself, “Man, these are going to get repetitive and boring awfully quick.” Well, you are wrong. “Malediction” and “Coils of Entropy” are a combined total of just under 19 minutes and they never lost me. The musicianship and writing on this album are done with care and executed with vicious precision and it’s clear that Nephelium take their work very seriously. If you are a fan of old school death metal, good guitar work or just a fan of heavy music in general, then Coils of Entropy is just what you want/need.

Pros: The guitars fucking rule man, vocals are brutal and drumming/bass work is destructive

Cons: Just 30 seconds or so of silly vocals, other than that…no real negative comments

WEDNESDAY WRECK-OMMENDATION! Read Up On The SOPA/PIPA Bill.

Wow. Many sites are blacked out today. Metal.

I will be one of the supporters against this ridiculous bill. Headbang or GTFO will be closed today and be apart of the black out. I will not upload a widget or change my HTML or anything of the sort. Just closed for the day. Posting will resume tomorrow.

Wikipedia is closed however they have left two pages up. The SOPA and PIPA page. Please read this and use your own judgement.

While the ideas of the the bill seem to have good intentions, it’s just unrealistic and unfair. This bill is a step backwards in our progression.

My blog would get shut down immediately for having images and songs up from bands. My header (which is the new Cannibal Corpse album cover) is an offense and so is this video.

It’s stupid. Use your head, America.

Later
