For All You Hungry European Grinders Over There: FUCK THE FACTS Will Be Touring There Real Soon Like. Also Nominated For Canadian Award!

So apparently the band that likes to shred your face off and feed it to the local folk are going to tour in Europe! A complete listing of dates is available below.  Guitarist Topon Dos commented on the upcoming run:

“It’s been a couple of years since we’ve last been to Europe, so we’re excited not only to finally get back over there, but to also have the opportunity to play some countries like Finland and Hungary for the first time. We’ve been ripping through a bunch of songs from our new album “Die Miserable” recently, so you can expect to hear a lot of newer tunes. See you soon!”

Also, the band has been nominated for Canada’s prestigious 2012 Juno awards in the Metal/Hard Music Album of the Year category and Sirius XM’s Indies Metal Artist/Group of the Year category.  More info on the Juno awards is available here while voting for the Sirius XM awards can be accessed here. So be sure to go and vote for FUCK THE FACTS and help them win! Unless of course you like some other Canadian band more, then vote for them I guess. It’s your choice! In case you haven’t heard of the new album, be sure to check out their bandcamp page because the new album “Die Miserable” is streaming in full.

WEDNESDAY WRECKOMMENDATION: THRAWSUNBLAT

From the cold frigid north comes some unique black metal from Thrawsunblat. Joel Violette (Woods of Ypres) pilots this beast that is a mesh between GOOD folk metal and black metal. Keeping things enjoyable for the whole family! Thrawsunblat is a good listen and I highly recommend it. If you like it, purchase the album! Check out the entire album HERE!

Shards of Love: A Tribute to David Gold (Woods of Ypres) Is An Amazing Read.

Rae Amitay from Metal Review wrote out this amazing blog post about David Gold, his legacy and the people he knew. Band mates express their feelings and thoughts and it’s just an extremely touching and emotional article. Here is just a small sample from the post, click here to read the rest. I highly recommend reading this.

On November 27th, David Gold gave me the opportunity of a lifetime. I’d responded to his announcement about needing a new drummer for Woods of Ypres, and after a few days of discussing my commitment, ability, and willingness to relocate to Canada, David offered me the position with open arms and incredible enthusiasm. Over the course of the next few weeks, I learned to play Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light as I continued to build my friendship with David and prepare for our upcoming shows in the UK. Upon hearing the album for the first time, I knew it was David’s masterpiece, and the most stunning Woods album to date.  I am eternally grateful that I was able to tell him how much I loved his music. For nearly a month, I lived and breathed that record. When I wasn’t playing through it, I was listening to it, always moved by David’s sorrowful voice and beautiful songwriting. Although today marked the first time I’ve been able to listen to Woods 5 since his passing, the songs never stopped running through my head. It hurts me so much that I will never be able to perform these songs with him.

RIP David Gold, I never got the chance to tell you how much I enjoy the album but I love it. Thank you for everything. Check out the review for Woods V: Grey Skies and Electric Light here.

Wednesday Wreck-ommendation: Woods of Ypres

Now that my 12 hour shift and daughter’s birthday party is over (Happy 1st Birthday Emily Erin!!!) I now have a couple of minutes to post my Wednesday feature.

It’s no secret that Woods of Ypres is one of my favorite bands I’ve heard this year. Woods IV was amazing and their previous work is equally as good if not better! WoY are releasing Woods V early next year and both songs they have leaked are really good. David Gold’s vocal style is brilliant and the style of Ypres, which they call blackened doom, is one of the best things to happen to my ears in a long time. Woods of Ypres has changed my life for the better and not only did they inspire me to write some kick ass songs, they inspired me enough to start this very blog. I never heard of Woods of Ypres and I wanted to share the news with my friends and community of the lesser known bands.

Woods of Ypres widened my range of music even more and helped me appreciate music that is slower than the usual death metal/death core fast BPM stuff all of the time. Doom is a great genre and I think it’s one of the best. Woods‘ older material is also some amazing black metal. Sit back, relax and listen to some Woods of Ypres.

Listen to Woods of Ypres’ new track, “Kiss My Ashes (Good Bye)”

Blackened Doom titans from the north, Woods of Ypres, have a new album coming out on January 30th, 2012. The new album “Woods 5: Grey Skies & Electric Light” will be released through Earache Records and it’s already on of my most anticipated releases of early next year. the song Kiss My Ashes (Good Bye) is a return to that slow doom sound that graced my ears throughout the entire year this year. The guitar solo is out of this world, the riffs are catchy and the great “Whoa” chants are present. Kiss My Ashes (Good Bye) has me wanting MORE Ypres. Late January could not come any faster.

Thrawsunblat. The Woods of Ypres side project of blackened folk metal goodness.

If the title doesn’t explain it well enough, then head over to their bandcamp and enjoy the music they are offering. Then buy the album!

I’m currently listening to this as I type it and I am really digging it! I just listened to the album in full and IT IS FUCKING GOOD!!! I like their approach to folk metal. It’s the best adaptation I’ve ever heard of this genre, quite frankly.

Woods of Ypres. The best thing to come out of Canada.

Blackened Doom metal band, Woods of Ypres, have come out of nowhere it seems and has taken over my iPod. Woods IV: The Green Album was released this year via Earache Records and it’s one of the most amazing metal albums I’ve ever heard. It’s so dynamic and powerful, you never lose interest. They just got done with their “Pain and Piss” tour and I believe they are working on Woods V now. Follow David Gold, the bands singer/guitarist/mastermind on twitter or add him on Facebook! Subscribe to their Youtube channel as well. David uploads videos quite often of shows and other tomfoolery.
