Wreckommendation!!! CHELSEA WOLFE

This week we tone down the guitars, slow down the percussion and tell the mad vocalist to take a hike and replace them with incredibly talented singer/guitarist/song writer Chelsea Wolfe. Her style may not be exactly “metal” but she has this goth/doom presence about her and the music she puts out is unlike anything else that I listen to. Her voice is simply, beautiful. It’s gives you goosebumps, it makes you feel the music and if you are like KeepItWolfSon, it makes you fall in love over and over.

Enjoy Chelsea Wolfe. Grab a cup of coffee, smoke a bowl and kick the fuck back. Grab a loved one and dance around. Feel the music…it’s very unique. Visit her Facebook and Twitter for updates, news and random shit. Also, visit her official site!

Album Review! Abigail Williams – Becoming

I never paid attention to Abigail Williams, because like an asshole, I thought with a band name like that, they were just another one of these awful metalcore/deathcore bands that blended in with the rest of the crowd. However, when I discovered they were a band who performs black metal, it definitely got my attention. Well, Abigail Williams proves once again, never judge a book by it’s cover because Becoming is an amazing work of art. Blending what you would like from acts such as Agalloch and Wolves In The Throne Room and making it their own unique sound. It’s very dark, atmospheric and moody. Slow paced music and venomous screams reign down on you as well as very melodic riffs and creative song writing. Becoming is true to what you would want from a black metal band, sinister vocals and ominous guitar riffs. It’s also very promising in terms of what you can expect from a post-black/ambient black metal band, very atmospheric and pulls you into a state of mind that is very hard to describe. Ah, genre labeling…what a waste of time right? You get my point.

Fretboard Friday on a Saturday morning! BLOTTED SCIENCE & SCALE THE SUMMIT

Here is the great track “Cretaceous Chasm” played by Ron Jarzombek from Blotted Science entirely with some awesome information on how systematically this track is played.

Next up are the gentlemen from Scale The Summit playing their track “The Levitated“.

Crosses ††† release their latest track: Prurien†

Crosses finally releases their latest track Prurien† after many many teases with their “stem” tracks. Prurien† is actually way better than those other tracks that people were putting together on bandcamp, thank god. That sure teaches me for not being patient! Well the track features some amazing vocal work from Chino and yet more calming soothing shit from Shaun. The drums during the chorus adds a little kick to the otherwise “stranded in the ocean” vibe from the rest of the song.

Frankly, I love it. Shocker right? It’s funny how Cannibal Corpse and Crosses can release new shit on the same date and even though they are polar opposites, I love em both. I cannot wait to hear the new EP that Crosses will be releasing on the 24th.

If you would like to listen to the track, click right here! Right click and “Save Link As” to download the track. Enjoy.

SOL INVICTO: Preview The “Initium II” Album

This preview track is great. The drum beats hold it down strong and guitar work adds a little character to the mix. The combination of the two gives the listener some good vibes. It’s like a rough mix of funk groove rock and tribal drum work at times. It feels very ambient yet with some structure and I’m digging it. I can’t wait to listen to the album in full. Check out the preview track here.

Saturday Morning Soundtrack – Final Fantasy VII

An amazing game with an amazing soundtrack. Final Fantasy VII was my gateway drug into the new age of RPG’s. Compelling story, characters, visuals and soundtrack really pulled the player into the game. I’ve made up a playlist to share with you all instead of spamming my blog with 7+ videos. Enjoy.

VATTNET VISKAR: Excellent Black Metal That You Need Hear.

So, you know…just doing my usual trolling this morning. Get linked to this tour my buddies blog and record label is doing. The Negotiatour (See previous post) and one of the bands on said tour is one I’ve never heard of before. So I check out their Facebook page and listen in. Vattnet Viskar fucking rule. Despair has that classic black metal sound and the vocalist, Nicholas Thornbury, has some balls about him. I love the vocals! Musically it’s as misanthropic as you’d expect from a black metal band. Production quality is low (However, if you know black metal, they do this on purpose usually) but that doesn’t stop how epic the music is. Vattnet Viskar (the song) has a nice tempo and feel about it. Once again, more awesome music and more depths from hell vocals. I really like the guitar riffs and drum patterns. Not the usual blastbeats you would hear on a black metal album.

Upon first listen, I’m quite impressed. Check out their Facebook page, like them and listen to them. Go forth and headbang.

New CROSSES Track?

Crosses †††, a duo consisting of Chino Moreno (Deftones) and Shaun Lopez (Far), have been in the studio working on a new EP since last year’s awesome EP they released titled “†††”. The new EP will be released Jan 24th

“Prurien† – Stem #1″ is the new track they have made available and you can listen to it here!!!

Qreview! Cloudkicker – Let Yourself Be Huge EP

Bedroom artists are not scarce, however true talent such as this is a rarity. Ben Sharp is the artist here and his project, Cloudkicker, is amazing music. While the main focus of this website is music that will make you headbang ferociously, I do enjoy something more thought out and melodic, ambient  and subtle. Let Yourself Be Huge is just that and done masterfully. 25 minutes of truly great and breathtaking music. The guitar playing is romantic in a way and performance on this EP is executed flawlessly. The song titles fit in with the music wonderfully, as was the case with Beacons. It adds to the song a little more and I can’t explain why. They are the only lyric to the song in a way.

Let Yourself Be Huge is one of my favorite instrumental albums of the year. There are no overly done gimmicks and wacky guitar solos. Just straight up rhythm and ambiance. It’s so well done, magical and beautiful. It’s hard to find the right words to express my appreciation of the hard work put into this album. It’s just SO FREAKING GOOD!

Pros: Everything. Literally: everything.

Cons: Only the weird in and out of the final riff on the song “Explore, be curious“…but that’s no big deal.

5 out of 5

Fuckin cool. ALCEST reveal album details for “Les Voyages De L’Âme”.

4. Nous Sommes L’Emeraude
5. Beings Of Light
6. Faiseurs De Mondes
7. Havens
8. Summer’s Glory

I really really really really really wanna hear this album right now. Fuck waiting 2 more months. This and a new Woods of Ypres album back to back? Oh man, January is already looking great for good tunes.

The music of Chelsea Wolfe is something else…way better than Chelsea Grin.

Chelsea Wolfe’s “Mer” is great. The song and the video. I’ve never heard of this band before until recently when two buddies of mine were talking about it. The song is off of the latest album “Apokalypsis”, The music is haunting and the vocals are cold. Mer is very ambient and I love how subtle and quiet the music is. How can something so calm be so powerful? I don’t know but I really want to get my hands on this album. Why is that guitar string bend so GOOD?

Jazzy with a touch of doom, BOHREN & DER CLUB OF GORE makes bone chilling music.

Jazz music that is slow, ambient, dark and doom like? I can get into this. Bohren & der Club of Gore was recommended to me (and others) via twitter by Mark Hunter, vocalist for Chimaira. This music inspired him to write one of the parts on the latest album. I can see why, this music is chill yet scary. It’s dark and classy. I just wanted to share this, I’ve become a huge fan of doom/ambient music the last couple of years and this is another interesting take on a great genre. Sit back, drink some scotch, smoke a cigarette and enjoy Bohren & der Club of Gore.
