HEADBANG OR GTFO!!!!!!!!!

WRECKOMMENDATION: BATTLECROSS – Pursuit of Honor

This week my wreckommendation is for a band I’ve recently become a fan of. I saw Battlecross open up for Hate Eternal and Goatwhore and they won me over and they were just fun, entertaining and overall a good time. That didn’t stop there because I kept listening to them and their newest album called “Pursuit of Honor“. They are a melodic thrash metal band featuring a vocalist who has a good range and uses primarily harsh vocals. They are just a beer drinkin, mosh startin, headbangin good time. Check them out!

Wreckommendation!!! CHELSEA WOLFE

This week we tone down the guitars, slow down the percussion and tell the mad vocalist to take a hike and replace them with incredibly talented singer/guitarist/song writer Chelsea Wolfe. Her style may not be exactly “metal” but she has this goth/doom presence about her and the music she puts out is unlike anything else that I listen to. Her voice is simply, beautiful. It’s gives you goosebumps, it makes you feel the music and if you are like KeepItWolfSon, it makes you fall in love over and over.

Enjoy Chelsea Wolfe. Grab a cup of coffee, smoke a bowl and kick the fuck back. Grab a loved one and dance around. Feel the music…it’s very unique. Visit her Facebook and Twitter for updates, news and random shit. Also, visit her official site!

WRECK-OMMENDATION: PLAGUE WIDOW & PAINFUL QUANDARY

I usually only choose one band for this weekly segment but since I missed out on last weeks post I figured, fuck it! This week we have some new bands making some fucking heavy music: Plague Widow and Painful Quandary.

Plague Widow is from Sacramento, CA and their approach to heavy music is just a constant barrage of in your face death metal. “Their EP they just released is fucking awesome. Plague Widow have merged rapid fire, no-bullshit grinding death metal with sinister, blackened passages. A furious & uncompromising display of refined discordant-Death & Grind.” Well said.

The next band is from the opposite side of the country in Callaway, FL. Florida, the home of good American death metal….and Painful Quandary continue on this tradition. Their attack to your ears is appalling, foul, evil and horrendous….and I FUCKING LOVE IT. These guys fucking get it. They make great death metal.

Both of these bands are quickly becoming my new favorites and I hope they do the same to you.

Be sure to “like” their Facebook pages!!!! Click here for Plague Widow & click here for Painful Quandary! Enjoy!

WRECK-OMMENDATION: NILE!

Nile is one of those few bands that really truly fucking bring it release after release, show after show, night after night, year after year. Since the 90′s, Nile has been telling stories of gods, slaves, torture and giant fucking gators. Mixing ancient Egyptian mythology with the intensity of death metal and implementing middle eastern influences into the music, Nile has created something unique in a genre where everything is about murder and Satan, well usually. Anyways, I’m seeing Nile next month and I’ve been getting fucking pumped up to see them ABSOLUTELY DESTROY Lawrence, KS. I’ve had this playlist I found of them playing live last year on constant loop for about a week now. So I thought I’d share it with you. The sound and picture quality is one of the best I’ve found of the band performing live so enjoy your Ash Wednesday (and my birthday) with some fucking NILE!!!!

Click here to get to my playlist.

WRECK-OMMENDATION! CROSSES featuring Chino Moreno on vocals.

I’m sure you have heard of this band already. Chino Moreno on vocals and Shaun Lopez on just about everything else. This collaboration is one of the best things to happen in recent years. If you’re a fan of bands like The Cure, Deftones (derp), NIN, Depeche Mode and other sexy shit to fuck to, then you’ll enjoy the music from Crosses. Check out a few songs below from the their second EP.

Wednesday Wreckommendation! HATE ETERNAL – Pheonix Amongst The Ashes

Last year, Hate Eternal released this album and it was on the top 5 of my list and Axl Rosenberg also ranked it quite high on his top 15 list of 2011 as well. the album is pure death metal and is simply one of the best death metal albums out, still. Pheonix Amongst The Ashes has brilliant writing, riffs, drumming and song structure that goes beyond the norm. Hate Eternal is underrated and deserve more than just “some band” for recognition. Listen to Hate Eternal, headbang.

WEDNESDAY WRECKOMMENDATION: THRAWSUNBLAT

From the cold frigid north comes some unique black metal from Thrawsunblat. Joel Violette (Woods of Ypres) pilots this beast that is a mesh between GOOD folk metal and black metal. Keeping things enjoyable for the whole family! Thrawsunblat is a good listen and I highly recommend it. If you like it, purchase the album! Check out the entire album HERE!

Wednesday Wreck-ommendation!! Type O Negative! Happy Birthday Peter Steele!!!!

Since I was going to pay tribute to Peter Steele since he would have turned 50 today (holy shit!), I’m going to go ahead and recommend his main band, Type O Negative. You may have heard of them, they were absolutely huge in the 90′s and even today their music is still relevant, dark and sexy. Their groove style of doom and Steele’s baritone voice will put you into a trance. Get ready to have your panties soaked. Videos after the jump, listen to Type O Negative!!! RIP Peter Steele.

Wednesday Wreck-ommendation!!! SKYRIM

The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Play it. It’s visually stunning and the sound is truly amazing. I can’t stop thinking about it. It’s totally made me forget about Modern Warfare 3 and I was really into that game. I want to play it so bad right now. My wonderful fiance gave it to me last weekend as an early Christmas gift and let me tell you, it’s better than I thought it was going to be. I mean you see a decapitation within the first 7 minutes of the game. HOW FUCKING AWESOME IS THAT!? Then one minute later, a dragon shows up and fucks up a town. The game play is fun and addicting.

I highly recommend this game for a myriad of reasons. Even the soundtrack is a masterpiece.

(late)Wednesday Wreck-ommendation: JUNIUS

It appears that Junius has left an impression on anyone who listens to their album “Reports From The Threshold Of Death“. It’s hard to compare them to anyone really and my expertise outside of metal is very nil. Immediately I can compare the vocal style to the Deftones. Very deep and breathy singing during the verse and a more prominent and powerful vocal style during the chorus usually. Joseph E. Martinez’s vocals are still very much Chino Moreno in a way. Which is not a bad thing because I think Moreno’s voice is the best thing on the planet. Martinez definitely does an amazing job singing on this record.

The music is rich and powerful. It’s nothing too incredibly metal but the sound coming from Junius is some of the best I’ve heard all year. It’s really well written and it’s almost Muse like in a way. Their style and song writing is out of this world. This latest album is definitely one you can listen to over and over and by the 3rd or 4th time start singing along. Check out their album “Reports From The Threshold Of Death” today!

Wednesday Wreck-ommendation: Woods of Ypres

Now that my 12 hour shift and daughter’s birthday party is over (Happy 1st Birthday Emily Erin!!!) I now have a couple of minutes to post my Wednesday feature.

It’s no secret that Woods of Ypres is one of my favorite bands I’ve heard this year. Woods IV was amazing and their previous work is equally as good if not better! WoY are releasing Woods V early next year and both songs they have leaked are really good. David Gold’s vocal style is brilliant and the style of Ypres, which they call blackened doom, is one of the best things to happen to my ears in a long time. Woods of Ypres has changed my life for the better and not only did they inspire me to write some kick ass songs, they inspired me enough to start this very blog. I never heard of Woods of Ypres and I wanted to share the news with my friends and community of the lesser known bands.

Woods of Ypres widened my range of music even more and helped me appreciate music that is slower than the usual death metal/death core fast BPM stuff all of the time. Doom is a great genre and I think it’s one of the best. Woods‘ older material is also some amazing black metal. Sit back, relax and listen to some Woods of Ypres.

Wednesday Wreck-ommendations. Music to play around the family during Thanksgiving without hearing dumb shit on the radio or even the dreaded X-mas station!

Something slightly different. I’m going to recommend a couple a of bands/albums to get you through tomorrow and possibly even Friday. Since a lot of people are going to be visiting family and I’m sure Grandma Betty does not want to hear Wolves In The Throne Room or Carnifex. I will do my best to give you some choices to help ease the pain a little. So here goes nothing.

First off we have two EP’s from a man named Eddie Kim. One was just released earlier this week and the other one was released earlier this year. Both can be found on his bandcamp page.

Click here to get to the PERIGEE EP. This EP is very calm and collective. Good instrumental album.

Here is the DEADFALL EP. This EP is calm as well but with more djenty goodness.

Another great album is Chelsea Wolfe’s “Ἀποκάλυψις” (Apokalypsis). Hard to place a specific genre or relate it to something else…just incredibly dark and sang really well.

Cloudkicker is another great band to enjoy while dealing with family battles over mashed potatoes. The band just released two EP’s on their (his) bandcamp page. Make sure you pick these two up. Hell I think even the old BEACONS album is still available as well.

Slightly heavy but still more on the chill side of things, Junius. Their latest album “Reports From The Threshold Of Death” is fucking good. Really fucking good. No seriously.

Russian Circles released a phenomenal album entitled “Empros” last month and holy hell it’s truly great stuff. Don’t believe me? Listen, you can thank me later.

Wednesday Wreck-ommendation!! Arch Enemy – Rise of the Tyrant

Today’s album I’d like to recommend is Arch Enemy’s Rise of the Tyrant and this is good for many many reasons. Not only is this album just amazing, Arch Enemy is one of the finest bands with top notch musicians and the best female vocalist ever. Just enjoy the fine songs that are from this album and pick up a copy!

Wednesday Wreck-ommendation (On Thursday): GoreSkinCoffin – Corpse Filled Caskets

Rotting death metal, furious grind, blasphemous black and murderous doom: GoreSkinCoffin (cool name too) fucking comes out of nowhere and kills your ears. The fury of this album and the intense music are pure metal gold. I’ve never really heard of a band pulling of such amazing death metal riffs, then go into black metal chords and finish off a track faster and harder like a grind king. The rhythm guitars and drums create songs that are catastrophic but controlled. It’s like detonating a nuke in your own backyard. The leads are brilliant, lately I’ve been growing bored with shitty attempts at solo’s but these guys pull it off. Corpse Filled Caskets combines the best of all relevant genres and shoves it into your soul. The album is short yet satisfying. GET IT NOW!!! They are offering it for free! No seriously! Click on the links to get a copy of GoreSkinCoffin’s album, Corpse Filled Caskets.

Go like them on Facebook too.

Official review will be up soon.

Wednesday Wreck-ommendations. San Diego gives us THE LOCUST and CATTLE DECAPITATION

Today we’re gonna get a little crazy and grind. Both bands hail from San Diego, CA. One is so crazy they are hard to describe and the other is more gore oriented. Both are extremely terribly awesome. Check them out right now.

Listen to THE LOCUST.

Next up is Cattle Decapitation! GORE!!!!!!!

Wednesday WRECK-OMMENDATIONS – I ATE EVERYBODY

This band no longer exists…I believe they go by the name THE PARASITIC COMPLEX now. However, I ATE EVERYBODY is fucking nuts. Some really good slam/death metal. It’s a crime scene to a malicious homicide. This will definitely kill your ears today. Enjoy the quality sound of being raped by I ATE EVERYBODY.

WEDNESDAY WRECK-OMMENDATION!!! SPLATTERED ENTRAILS

Humans: Deprogrammed

Well it’s another Wednesday. Another day to kill your ears to some heavy music. Today has been a long day. I’ve been welding my ass off and prepping the shop for the winter. While welding I put on an album that had me working faster and headbanging WHILE WELDING. From the ultra talented young man known as Mike O’Hara, I present Splattered Entrails and the album Nauseate.

Nauseate will push your speakers limits and will deafen your ears. This album is done completely by Mike and it’s amazing how one single person can put together such a brutal album. Nauseate has very little flaws in terms of death metal. Blast beats, fast guitar riffs and amazing vocals…this shit rips. I highly suggest finding this album, listening to it and make everyone in traffic or at your employment terrified.

Parasites

Also, enjoy some of Mike O’Hara’s other tunes as well. Not included on the album, but still incredibly delicious.
